Volunteer of the Year

Awarded annually to a volunteer nominated by one of the seven ICBA locals whose contributions have gone above and beyond to ensure the success of their local and/or the Inter County Baseball Association.

    Steve Derick
    Woodstock Minor Baseball
    Steve typically takes on the ‘thankless’ jobs, and never expects to be recognized and never complains. As a WMBA board member, Steve has helped to run and manage the indoor practice facility and oversees the equipment needs for every Rep, Select, and House League team. Steve also coaches 18U House League, helping kids stay active and interested in the sport at an age when it’s common to lose interest. Steve played an important role as a volunteer with the 13U Nationals.
Team of the Year - Select

Started in 2023, this award will be issued annually to an ICBA select team to recognize their outstanding accomplishments and who embrace the values of ICBA and inspire others to be strong leaders both on and off the baseball field.

    Kitchener Panthers 13U Select
    Head Coach: Cory Bloom
    This team has the following accomplishments this season: - Finished 1st in the ICBA Regular Season, losing just once - Lost in the ICBA finals to a dedicated Select team - Qualified for OBAs as the top House League Select - Won the Northumberland Tournament going undefeated - Won the Forest Glade/Windsor Tournament going undefeated. - Finished 6th at OBAs losing only to the 1st and 2nd place finishers

Awarded annually to an ICBA rep team to recognize their outstanding accomplishments and who embrace the values of ICBA and inspire others to be strong leaders both on and off the baseball field.

    Guelph Royals 10U Tier 1
    Head Coach: Adam Fanjoy
    The Guelph Royals 10U AAA team completed their season with a final record of 40-5.Their Team achievements included finishing first in the regular season , ICBA Champs and OBA AAA ICBA representatives. The team has been made up of the core group since 8U and are continuing to develop well still having fun playing the game. They had a goal at the beginning of the season to be competitive but also push each other to be the best versions of themselves. GMBA is proud to have this team represent them.
Steve Tabar Local Association of the Year

Awarded annual to an ICBA centre who demonstrates excellence in a variety of areas. The criteria for this award takes into consideration attendance at meetings, administration and timeliness, participation in ICBA leadership and programs, hosting tournaments, league, playoff and provincial championship results, and awards associations that have the fewest disciplinary concerns throughout the season.

Senior Umpire of the Year

Awarded annually to a senior level umpire (OBA Level 3 or higher) who was an integral part of our success as a league.

    Liam Stapleton
    Cambridge Minor Baseball
    Since 2018 when Liam became an umpire he has been assigned to 185 games from 8U house league, to 16U EBLO travel games. Out of the 185 games assigned, 87 were officiated this past season. Liam has always worked well with his partners - the more senior adult umpires, umpires from his own peer group, as well as mentoring new umpires. His consistency as an official made him a favourite among coaches. He was solid, reliable and over-the-top more than helpful.
Senior Player of the Year

Awarded annually to a senior-aged player (14U-18U) in recognition of their dedication, sportsmanship, and athletic ability.

    Bryson Kraan
    Kitchener Panthers 18U Tier 2
    Bryson led the team in hitting and pitching last season while his character and love for the game of baseball shone brightly! Not only did he hit in big spots in the top of the order but he also pitched in the biggest situations of the season. On the season Bryson pitched in 39.2 innings and led the team only allowing 6 ER, 1.059 ERA, and .983 WHIP! Bryson also led the team offensively with 40 hits, 31 RBI, .392 Avg, and 1.01 OPS.
Senior Pitcher of the Year

Awarded annually to a senior-aged pitcher (14U-18U) who demonstrated an outstanding season as a pitcher while also exemplifying characteristics of dedication, sportsmanship, and a high level of athletic ability.

    Ethan Martin
    Waterloo Tigers 18U Tier 1
    An effective and reliable pitcher for the Waterloo Tigers. He has contributed in 7 wins for the Tigers (4 wins + 2 saves) in 14 games that he pitched. Allowing only 4 earned runs in the regular season, his ERA is 0.81. His K to walk ratio is 1.85, holding opponents BA to a low 0.155. His whip was 1.164. A cool and level guy on the mound, Ethan is all business. Nothing disturbs his internal peace. He was a quiet leader for the Waterloo Tigers.
Senior Coach of the Year

Awarded annually to a senior level coach (14U-18U) who guides their athletes to success in sport and in life by instilling in them the values of honesty, integrity, a positive attitude, competitiveness, and a love of sport.

    Paul Ewart
    Waterloo Tigers 16U
    Paul's patience and baseball knowledge make his teams better every year. His on field leadership brought an ICBA championship to Waterloo in 2022. Paul also coaches with Laurier at the University Level for the past number of years. He joined WMBA Board this past year and assist other coaches with bookings for winter workouts.Pauls team battled hard in the regular season and had a solid showing at this years OBA tournament.

    William Myltschenko
    Brantford Minor Baseball
    As a 2nd year umpire Will's development over the 2023 season grew in leaps and bounds. Will's season started off in Rec League but wasn’t long before he was assigned Rep games. In total Will umpired 86 games this season and by the end of the year he had worked his way up to be behind the plate for the 12U T2 ICBA Championship game and on Labour Day Will was given the plate assignment for the 11U AA OBAs, quite an accomplishment for a 2nd year umpire.

    Liam Doyle
    Guelph Royals 13U Tier 1
    Liam has never played at the rep level before and led this team to OBA's with a 34-15 record. This team was not expected to win much at all this year. He led the team in Bat Avg with a .507, OBP, Hits with 63, 13 of which were doubles, 3rd in RBI's as a leadoff hitter with 34 ,was tops in the Runs category with 45, He was able to steal 70 Bases on the season. He became a leader on the team and someone the other players could look to for a spark.
Junior Pitcher of the Year

Awarded annually to a junior-aged pitcher (8U-13U) who demonstrated an outstanding season as a pitcher while also exemplifying characteristics of dedication, sportsmanship, and a high level of athletic ability.

    Hayes Francis
    Stratford Nationals 10U Tier 2
    Hayes had an amazing season, winning every game he started and helping out with many more saves. He reached 60 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched and only walked 14 batters in his first year of pitching 5 of which were in the first game. He finished with an ERA of 1.24 and left a total of 41 runners on base. Opponents only batted .152 off him all season. He was the winning pitcher in the ICBA championship game going 6 ⅔ innings throwing 76 pitches. When Hayes goes on that mound, he owns it.
Junior Coach of the Year

Awarded annually to a junior level coach (8U-13U) who guides their athletes to success in sport and in life by instilling in them the values of honesty, integrity, a positive attitude, competitiveness, and a love of sport.

    Jeff Shapton
    Woodstock Wranglers 12U Tier 1
    Jeff uses humour, patience, and warmth when interacting with players, umpires, and other teams. His genuine love for the game, and for coaching, is readily apparent through his enthusiasm and energy at every outing, and most importantly, through his methods of instruction to his players. If a challenging situation arises during a game, he can be known to 'take the high road' and stay true to modeling positive leadership and grace to not only his own players and coaching staff, but parents too.
Brenda Wideman Registrar of the Year

Introduced in 2022, this award will be awarded annually in honour of the late Brenda Wideman to a local registrar who exemplifies an unwavering passion for the game, attention to details, and a strong commitment to giving back.

    Beth Hovius
    Stratford Minor Baseball
    The task of the local registrar was no easy feat this season. After countless delays, OBA launched a new platform for rostering which came with many challenges and unknowns. Beth embraced this with ease, never once complaining. Beth's attention to detail and proactive approach will be missed as she leaves SMBA to pursue other volunteer endeavours but through the creation of a training manual, there is no doubt SMBA's next registrar will have the tools needed to follow in her footsteps.
Arthur Fach Award

In memory of the late Arthur Fach (Commissioner of the Junior IBL for over 30 years) in recognition of a volunteer whose contributions extend beyond the baseball field and make an impact on a larger societal scale. This award is not issued annually.
