The ICBA objectives for our playoff format are as follows:
- To not play a tournament at 12U and up.
- To play more games at our home diamonds in August.
- To stretch out the season and generally play more games.
- To maintain an ICBA Championship.
To that end, at 12U and older, we will have a traditional playoff format consisting of best 2 of 3's until a champion is crowned. 8U-11U will compete in a tournament format championship weekend.
The format is based on an 8 team loop and all would take part. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5.
The winner would advance to the semi finals, the losers would move to the consolation side.
Divisions with more than 8 teams will see the teams below the 8th seed go to the Consolation finals automatically.
All series would start on the Wednesday following OBA qualifying weekend, except for 18U which will commence after the classification weekend. Each series would be scheduled on 3 consecutive days (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday with Saturday and Sunday rain days.)
In the event of rain, pitch counts would be consistent with 3 consecutive days. The second round would begin on the Monday with the same format, (Monday to Friday) Round 3 would be Saturday to Wednesday. ICBA tie breakers are used to decide seeding.
At 18U this format will be interrupted by OBA weekend, we will adjust accordingly as normally ICBA tournament would be after the OBA tournament.
In the case of 4 team divisions it would become a 3 best of 5 series over the 7 day format. In 4 and 5 team divisions there will be no consolation round. In 9, 11 or 13 team loops only the top 7 will play for the championship with the #1 seeded team receiving a bye in the first round while others will play a best of 3 for entry into the championship round while losers would drop to the consolation round.
If it is an 8, 10, 12 or 14 team division, the top 8 teams go to the championship round while others play for consolation championship.
If there are 10 or more teams, the consolation side would be a single elimination in round 2 and 3 over a 5 day period. the final would be a best 2 of 3.
In summary in an 8 team loop, all teams would play a minimum of 4 games, in larger divisions some could only play 2 or 3 games.
